"Akpabio Has Shocked Us"

The Akwa Ibom fact finding team, an eight member group made up of indigenes of the state residing in the United States of America, USA, and the United Kingdom UK, has described as incredible and overwhelming, the massive infrastructural facilities put in place in the state, by Governor Godswill Akpabio, in just two years in office.

Ata Ikiddeh, an Akwa Ibom indigene from Nsit Ibom based in the United Kingdom said with the infrastructure which his team has so far witnessed in the course of their itinerary tour of various projects sited in the state was far more than the reports they had received.

The team which was conducted around the entire state between Monday and Wednesday this week by the State Commissioner for Information Mr. Aniekan Umanah, were shown roads in Ikot Ekpene, Eket, Oron, the independent power plant at Ikot Abasi, flyover projects at Itam, the dualized portion of the Calabar-Itu road, the ongoing Tropicana entertainment centre, completed road projects in Ikot Abasi, Nung udoe- Okoita- Use Ikot Amama road, including the bridges, theAfaha Obong- Etim Ekpo –Iwukem- Urua Inyang road with the new bridge, the digital library in Uyo, among other projects visited by the team, praised Governor Akpabio for the fast pace development he has brought to the state.

The team however stressed the need for adequate publicity to be given to government’s activities, noting that the achievements may not have received enough publicity.

They implored the governor to invest massively in information dissemination through the Ministry of Information to enable it “amplify these achievements an the successes to the whole world, and to be able to attract investors to the state.

At the Akwa Ibom Imternational Airport, the team leader, Barr. Ikiddeh who expressed delight at the facilities put in place at the airport, said “we have heard all kinds of stories, all sorts of reports and we came from the diaspora to look at the facts physically and to take stock of the things that have been done. We are overwhelmed by the infrastructural development that have taken place within two years”.

“Intercity and intra city roads, the towns the local government, the schools, the bridge, in fact its just incredible, the amount of work he has done in the villages has shocked us”.

Another member of the team, Barr. Itata Itata on his part said, “The work being done by this administration is very inspirational, I have had access to certain information, but coming here with the information I have, I am still in a state of shock, as to the profound level of development. The hurried and fast pace of activities, not just in the urban areas, but scattered all over the rural areas. This administration has moved Akwa Ibom State from the 19th century forward to the 22nd century. And I can only imagine what will happen with this administration n place through 2015, Akwa Ibom State at that point probably would demand to move from Nigeria, because we are moving four steps ahead of every other states, including the much trumpeted states”, he said.

The independent act finding team, assured that with the facts gathered so far in the course of their tour of the project sites in the state, the information they will put across to their contemporaries will attract positive reactions. They hinted of plans to attract foreign investment to the state. The team applauded the Commissioner for information, Mr, Aniekan Umanah, for accompanying them through out the tour and praised him for supporting the governor in his resolve to develop the state, the team was conducted round facilities at the airport, including the run way, control tower, temporary general aviation terminal, fire facilities, M.R.O, among other facilities by the CSO in charge of the airport, Mr. Steve Owoh.
