This website is not owned and/or sponsored, directly or indirectly, by the Akwa Ibom State Government, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or any of their respective ministries/agencies/parastatals.

Akwa Ibom State has a physical newspaper, "The Pioneer". This paper is published three times a week. In a world where there are no time zones or boundaries, it would only make sense that, "The Pioneer" have a web presence...and it does. Unfortunately, this website is not updated frequently...sometimes, it is not even updated in weeks. As a result, Akwa Ibom citizens in the diaspora in particular who would love to keep abreast of latest developments in Akwa Ibom State end up scouring the net in search of any news pertaining to the state. This is where Akwa Ibom News Online comes in.

Akwa Ibom News Online aims to fill the aforementioned gaps. This it will do by providing a one-stop source of information, updated daily, for all news Akwa Ibom via links from various websites. Akwa Ibom News Online will also allow visitors to submit articles the site might have missed as well as allow visitors to submit commentary, in addition to providing a "News in brief" with respect to the goings-on in our neighbouring Cross-River State and Nigeria as a whole. The aim of all this is to hopefully alert the powers that be in Akwa Ibom State to the need for a website where Akwa Ibom citizens worldwide can visit for information about their state of origin, with the confidence that such news is up-to-date.

In the event that, "The Pioneer" decides to improve its services, this site will aim to complement, rather than compete with it. In the end, it is a win-win situation.

Akwa Ibom News Online hereby calls on all Akwa Ibom citizens worldwide to help support this site. Comments, suggestions and criticism are all welcome. If you would like to leave the webmaster a note, please do not hesitate to send us an email.
