...towards the improvement of health in Africa

PRESS RELEASE

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN HEALTH CARE TO GOVERNOR GOD'SWILL AKPABIO

FAMSA is a project-oriented body of African medical students who seek to be actively involved in tackling the peculiar problems of the African continent, especially as it regards health. FAMSA activities are directed at empowering African medical students with the knowledge and contact network required to contribute meaningfully towards improving the quality of life of Africans, advocacy and inspiring Africans to take the future of their health and development in their own hands.

FAMSA recognizes the numerous contributions of His Excellency, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwaibom State, South-south Nigeria towards the improvement of health in Africa. They include, but not limited to:

  • Employment of more health workers in the state to meet the health needs of the people
  • Motivation and support to medical students of Akwa Ibom State origin through bursary awards
  • Motivation of health workers by creating a relatively conducive working environment, increment in allowances and provision of brand new cars to doctors in the state civil service
  • Provision of free health services to children under 5 years, pregnant women and the elderly, as well as Emergency Medical Services
  • Establishment of new health facilities and rehabilitation of the existing ones
  • Support to the activities of the Nigerian medical practitioners (NMA)
  • Massive human and infrastructural development in his state

The General Assembly of the federation comprising of delegates from the member Medical Students' Associations across Africa today adopted the governor as the sole recipient of FAMSA Award of Excellence this year.

FAMSA is proud of his achievements and hereby projects him as a model for other African leaders.
