Photo News: Akpabio in London, Again Drums Diaspora Support for Jonathan 2011 (Posted: August 29, 2010)

For the second time in five weeks, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has called on Nigerians in the Diaspora to support the Jonathan 2011 presidential bid saying that ‘goodluck’ awaits Nigerians as the joins in ensuring that President Jonathan emerges in 2011.

Chief Akpabio who was addressing a gathering of Nigerians after receiving the BEN TV International – Nigeria Arise Outsanding Infrastructural Development in Africa Merit Award in Middlesex ,London at the weekend described President Jonathan as an urbane intellectual , visionary and consummate leader said a vote for Jonathan is a vote for goodluck for Nigerians.

Governor Akpabio called on Nigerians to see the need for the Niger Delta to be given an opportunity in the Nigerian nation commended past and present leaders of the country for the unity achieved by keeping the country together stressing that the strength of the nation lies in our unity in diversity.

Harping on the need for Nigerians to dedicated themselves to virtues and actions that will grow the country, Governor Akpabio urged Nigerians to arise and make good contributions for the growth of the country in whatever capacity . According to the governor,it was the spirit of making the much needed difference that ignited in his administration the zeal to transform Akwa Ibom into a model State in Nigeria.

Governor Akpabio who dedicated the award given him to the Almighty God and the children of Akwa Ibom state told the audience that the determination of his administration has lead to significant transformation of the state from a rural pedestrian state to an emerging destination in Nigeria. He listed some of the gains of his stewardship to include the free and compulsory education programm , the free healthcare policy for children ,expectant mothers and the elderly. He said the infrastructural renaissance embarked upon by his government has seen to the construction of more than 205 federal and state roads , the completion of Ibom International airport and commencement of commercial flights. Others are the completion and switch on of power plant and massive intervention rural areas through the people oriented projects.

Other Nigerian dignitaries also honoured by Ben TV_ Nigeria Arise were Her Excellency, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio who bagged the humaitarian awrd for her care for widows in Akwa Ibom State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili, Nigerian High Commissioner in United Kingdom, Dr. Tafida.
