Commentary: "Greetings, well wishes and congratulations to the senior leadership of the Akpabio Administration" by: Victor Udo, PhD Dear All: Greetings, well wishes and congratulations to the senior leadership of the Akpabio Administration (Gov. Akpabio, Deputy Gov. Ekere and SSG Umanah) on the re-nomination of majority of the first term leaders for reappointment in the second term. Congratulations and well wishes to the leadership and members of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly under the Speakership of Hon. Ikon. The election period is in the past! Now is governance time where all three arms of the government must play their roles effectively and be seen to have done so!! Beginning with the Governor"s re-nomination of the commissioners, our legislators must use this opportunity to question the re-nominated Commissioners regarding their first term performance and also extract commitments from them to perform even better in the second term. It is the role of the legislators to provide oversight over the ministries to be sure the Governor"s vision is accomplished. The legislators should not just tell the Commissioners to "bow and go" but should use this review and consent process to challenge them as individuals and as a team and demand that they translate the "uncommon transformation" during the first term into a "common transformation" across the entire state during the second term. Our people say "ket anem ntom, iba?" (if one was this good how about the second?) " if the Akpabio Administration accomplished this much during the first term, how much should we expect in the second term? To whom much is given, much is expected. Congratulations to all of the re-nominated commissioners many of whom I have had the opportunity to interact with at home, UK and in the USA. I have no doubt you will all be confirmed and assign the appropriate portfolios. We trust that you would do our people proud so that when the history of Akwa Ibom is written, your names will be prominent. Best wishes!
