Commentary: "Goodluck Represents the opportunity, hope and integrity in Nigeria"
by: Acho Orabuchi

The US Chapter of Goodluck-Namadi Global Group 2011 joins Nigerians in the Diaspora to congratulate President Goodluck Ebele Azikwe Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo for their success at the PDP presidential primaries and pray for their complete success at the April 2011 general election. Certainly, “the Goodluck-Namadi presidential ticket represents the opportunity, hope and integrity Nigeria needs at this time in Nigeria history”.

In a speech before the primary votes were cast, President Jonathan spoke about the "transformation" he wants to bring to a country long held back by corruption. "Our nation is on the threshold of history," he said.

In his words: “Within two years, every state in Nigeria will have a federal tertiary educational institution. I will give this country strong leadership to become developed,” he said. On a personal note, our Global Chairman- Alaboso Joejim, the USA National Chairman, the USA Executives and the entire members of our organization express our profound appreciation and gratitude for the honor to meet with our President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan at his visit to the United States for the annual United Nations General Assembly assignments in September 2010. This again demonstrated the president?s commitment to every Nigerian irrespective of political, cultural and ethnic leaning. His speech at the occasion will always remain evergreen in our memory.

In his speech at the said meeting in New York , the president emphasized that though he wishes to emerge victorious in the 2011 Presidential election; he will not toy or play politics with the future of Nigerians. He promised to provide Nigerians with good leadership in order to bring the country at par with the fast growing economies of the world. He added “I will not play politics with the development of Nigeria .” The President regretted that countries which started the race to economic recovery with Nigeria such as Malaysia and Brazil are now living in the jet age while Nigeria lags behind.

The President cited Brazil that has for instance, started manufacturing its own war planes while Nigeria could only boast of producing gun powder, stressing “this is unacceptable to our country after 50 years of independence.” Jonathan reiterated his determination to remain focused on his development agenda for Nigeria than be entangled in the mud of politics, and urged Nigerians both at home and abroad to join hands with his government in the task of nation-building.

President Jonathan said Nigeria?s greatness is always on his mind and expressed optimism that one day Nigeria shall be great like other developed countries of the world even as he urged Nigerians in Diaspora to always strive to do what is right before the laws of their host countries. According to him, Nigerians living abroad should not be in a hurry to return home, except those that don?t have genuine businesses. He said that great countries of the world today have their nationals spread around the rest of the world. “We want our people to be everywhere because we have the human resources to do well anywhere we are.”

Finally, we thank our patrons, Senator Paulker Emmanuel and Mr. Kola Adesina, for facilitating our meeting with the president. We are working with you to help elect President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo for the respective offices of President and Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in April 2011. God help us in Jesus name. Amen!

Together we declare that:

  • We will fight for JUSTICE!
  • We will fight for all Nigerians to have clean energy and stable electric power!
  • We will fight for qualitative and competitive education!
  • We will fight for health care reforms!
  • We will fight to create jobs, for all Nigerians!
  • We will fight corruption!
  • We will fight to protect all Citizens!
  • We will fight for the rights of all Nigerians!
