Akwa Ibom News Online Commentary

Commentary: "The Importance of Culture & Tourism!"
by: Emman Boniface

There's one important sector in which the goverment of our dear esteem state "Akwa Ibom"and that sector is culture & tourism beleive it or leave Akwa Ibom has a lot of good and viabrant sites in which properly harnessed will become potential aspect of employment and development as well as boosting the economy of the state.let's just examine a senario where the ministry resucitate or initiate an anual event tagged "Ibom intrenational festival" whereby people will come from within and outside Africa to partake in the event through this lot of job will be created by the establishment of hotel, opening of many restaurants and will also provide an ample opportunity for development as well as contrubuting immensely to the state economy anually and will egually attracts foreign investors.look at our sister states like Delta,Rivers and Cross River State.

These state have in saveral occasions held their carnnivals in which many tourist site were created and take it as a business and that pays Cross Rivers off with the recent appointment of Edem Duke as Hon minister of culture & tourism who was a driving force and key player in taking culture & tourism in Cross River to where it is today,so if others states could do it, i'ven't envisage any difficulty in us(Akwa Ibom) doing it even beyond if the govt begins now to organise cultural activities from grassroot level enroot to the grang finale in the state capital and you will find out that most of the youths will be up and doing in order to repressent their various communities or LGAs in the finals and this will drastically reduce the restiveness in the youth, they rather be very busy about being creative and outstanding in the next competition than thinkin evil.so lets begin to channel our efforts to all other sector as against only one source of income as it stands now in the state.this will help us cater for the extreme needs of the Akwa Ibommites and as well reduce this houseboy syndrome affecting us.it is very devestating and pathetic that anywhere you enter you will see an Akwa ibommites being a proffesional gateman, househelp, cleaner and the glorified ones are cook, driver and salesboy so is high time we come togather and navigate every other sectors in order to erase this ugly impressions people has about us for sometimes now and this has psychological effect on on us everwhere we go especially whenever there's and arguments.

So this is very very disturbing and need to be address and immediately too so that we can take our rightful place in the society, and one will ask,"whether we have the financial muscles to do that",to my candid opinion, without minxing words i will say yes because our allocation and the IGR settles it,Akwa ibom is bless both with financial resources, human resources and natural resources that if properlly harnessed will make Akwa ibom a"Destination" instead of a "Transit"so let begin now to make Akwa Ibom a land fulfillment by developing all the sector simultaneaouslly.

...Watch out for the next edition.
